Automotive Conveyor Chain and Trolleys
Automotive paint shops, e-coat ovens and assembly lines run on overhead conveyor chain, so one failed link stops the line. Frost has made X-type chain, trolleys and conveyor components in Grand Rapids, Michigan since 1915. We build parts for new lines and also the replacement parts that keep older lines running.

Oven Heat
Paint and e-coat ovens cook standard bearings. For this reason, Frost high temperature roller turn rollers use a journal bearing rated to 800°F continuous. Full ball complement trolley wheels are also rated to 500°F.
Paint and Overspray
Overspray and dirt get into open wheels, so Frost offers Splashproof®, wiper and contact lip seal options. As a result, contamination stays out of the bearing and the grease stays in.
Heavy, Swinging Loads
Body and frame carriers load the chain and the bracket, not only the wheel. That is why Frost builds forged brackets, full ball wheels and X-458 and X-678 chain for this duty. For example, forged X-678 chain is rated at 125,000 lb ultimate strength.
Uptime
A stop on a paint line costs more than the part. Because of that, Frost offers chain wear analysis, chain strain analysis and permanent wear monitoring, which show what is wearing before it fails.

Most automotive plants run power and free or continuous overhead conveyors on 3, 4 or 6 in I-beam. Frost supplies the moving parts of those systems. In addition, every part is built to fit the conveyors already in your plant.

What conveyor chain do automotive paint lines use?
Overhead paint and e-coat lines typically run X-type conveyor chain in 3, 4 or 6 in pitch: X-348, X-458 or X-678. The chain rides on power trolleys in an I-beam track. Frost makes all three sizes in Smooth Link® and forged versions.
Can Frost replace trolleys on an existing line?

How hot can the trolley wheels run?
Frost retainer wheels are rated to 325°F, while full ball complement wheels are rated to 500°F. For hotter ovens, high temperature roller turn rollers are rated to 800°F continuous.
Does Frost make power and free trolleys for automotive plants?
Yes. Frost free trolleys fit Webb, Acco, Fata and Rapid style power and free systems. In addition, the free trolley rebuild program puts worn free trolleys back in service.
How do I find the pitch of my conveyor chain?
Measure from the center of one pin to the center of the next. A 3 in pitch is X-348, 4 in is X-458 and 6 in is X-678. How to measure conveyor chain.
