Automotive Conveyor Chain and Trolleys
From the Body Shop to Final, every automotive conveyor depends on the chain and trolleys that move it. Frost supplies automotive conveyor chain, overhead and inverted trolleys, free trolleys and enclosed track (ET) chain, built in Grand Rapids, Michigan. We build parts for new lines, and also the replacement parts that keep older lines running.
Where Frost Fits in Your Automotive Plant
Body
Welded bodies and closures move between weld cells and buffer ahead of paint on overhead power and free conveyors. Frost supplies the free trolleys, power trolleys, chain and load bars that carry them. Read more
Paint
Pretreatment, e-coat, sealer, booths and ovens put conveyor parts through chemicals, paint and heat every shift. Frost builds sealed and high temperature trolleys, wheels and roller turn rollers for both overhead and inverted power and free lines. Read more
Trim
After paint, bodies, doors and other sub-assemblies move through trim on overhead conveyors. Frost chain, trolleys and attachments keep those carriers moving at a steady pace. Read more
Final
In Final, overhead carriers hold the body at working height through chassis and marriage. Frost heavy duty chain and trolleys are built for those heavy, swinging loads. Read more
Engine
Engine and transmission plants move blocks, heads and dressed engines between machining, assembly and test. Frost enclosed track chain and overhead trolleys fit the conveyors that connect them. Read more
Quality Checked and Proof Loaded
Every strand of Frost chain is proof loaded and quality checked before it ships. When a line needs a check-up, chain wear and strain analysis shows what is wearing before it fails. Read more
Applications
Most automotive plants run overhead or inverted power and free, or continuous overhead conveyors. Frost supplies the moving parts of those systems, built to fit the conveyors already in your plant.
Questions We Hear
What conveyor chain do automotive paint lines use?
Overhead paint and e-coat lines typically run X-Type conveyor chain in 3, 4 or 6 in pitch: X-348, X-458 or X-678. The chain rides on power trolleys in an I-beam track. Frost makes all three sizes in Smooth Link® and forged versions.
Can Frost replace trolleys on an existing line?
Yes. First, send your I-beam size and trolley drop, or a photo of the trolley. Then our team will match it. How to measure trolley drop.
How hot can the trolley wheels run?
Frost retainer wheels are rated to 325°F, while full ball complement wheels are rated to 500°F. For hotter ovens, high temperature roller turn rollers are rated to 800°F continuous.
Does Frost make power and free trolleys for automotive plants?
Yes. Frost free trolleys fit Webb, ACCO, FATA and Rapid Style power and free systems. In addition, the free trolley rebuild program puts worn free trolleys back in service.
Does Frost make inverted trolleys?
Yes. Frost makes inverted trolleys in 4 and 6 in, and overhead trolleys in 2, 3, 4 and 6 in. Paint shops often use inverted lines because the chain runs below the part, so dirt from the conveyor stays under the finish.
Can Frost check a paint line chain for wear?
Yes. Frost offers chain wear analysis, chain strain analysis and a 37 point conveyor system health assessment. Permanent wear monitoring can also run 24/7, so maintenance is planned around production.
